Welcome to the Arthropedia Blog
Welcome!
Arthropedia is a celebration of invertebrates in the phylum Arthropoda, covering insects, spiders, woodlice and centipedes and millipedes.
About this Blog
This blog will feature personal observations on a diverse range of species with further insightful information as well as photographs, field sketches and finished artwork. Most will be from my native county of Norfolk with many from my wildlife-friendly back garden in Norwich but there will also be specialities from around Britain, depending on where field trips take me.
The Arthropedia Blog aims to highlight the amazing diversity of life at the smaller scale of things, wisely described as the little things that make the world work (E.O. Wilson) and which I like to call charismatic micro fauna. It shows us what can be found, sometimes with a little searching, often quite literally on our own doorsteps.
It highlights a fascinating world, where amazing creatures can be encountered and unique observations can be made without the need for travelling thousands of miles around the world.
Arthropedia: The Book
Arthropedia: An Illustrated Alphabet of Invertebrates is my homage to the many remarkable creatures that have inspired me as a wildlife artist and amateur naturalist. It has 26 colour plates and numerous pen and ink drawings, mostly in black and white. There are more than 400 individual invertebrates depicting over 300 species along with interesting and informative text.
It is due to be published in spring 2020 by Mascot Media.
